3 Dominican Brothers and their Little Sister Washington Heights New York in the 80's

Born in the Bronx at the Lebanon Hospital in 1977, my roots are deeply tied to the dynamic mix of Dominican and Afro Latino culture. Raised with my two brothers and sister in the streets of Washington Heights during the '80s, the gritty reality of New York City life serves as the raw inspiration for the clothing we create at Sancocho Bodega.

Washington Heights in the '80s wasn't just a neighborhood; it marked a period of socio-economic challenges, the impact of the crack epidemic, but also good things like hip-hop, breakdancing, art, activism, and street style. Overall, Washington Heights in the 1980s was a dynamic and culturally rich community shaped by the experiences and contributions of its diverse residents. At Sancocho Bodega, we embrace and celebrate the grit and diversity of our Dominican and Afro Latino culture. Our designs reflect the fusion of these influences, capturing the straightforward essence of the '80s.

Sancocho Bodega is more than a brand; it's a collection that echoes the unfiltered vibes of the Bronx, Washington Heights, and the varied tapestry of Dominican and Afro Latino heritage in uptown.

De Lo Mio Nike Sneakers by César Pérez said it best:

FROM THE WASHINGTON HEIGHTS AND GRAND CONCOURSE TO CORONA AND THE SOUTHSIDE OF WILLIAMSBURG. WE CAME TO NUEVA YORK IN SEARCH OF THE AMERICAN DREAM AND DISCOVERED MUCH MORE THAN THAT, WE FOUND HOME.

WE BROUGHT OUR CULTURE HERE. THE DEMBOW AND THE MERENGUE BLARING OUT THE SPEAKERS, THE NOISE ON THE BLOCK. THE AROMA OF CAFÉ AND FRITURA. WE MADE UPTOWN OUR MINI DR.

THE COMMUNITY GATHERING IN FRONT OF THE BODEGAS AND CHIMI TRUCKS, THE FRIO-FRIOS. PEOPLE PLAYING DOMINOS BECAUSE IT'S MORE THAN A GAME FOR US--IT'S A RITE OF PASSAGE, AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE CULTURE THAT TRANSCENDS AGE AND CLASS, A WAY OF LIFE.

WE CAME HERE WANTING TO BE THE ONE. WE WANTED TO REPRESENT. WE WANTED TO STAND OUT. WE WORKED HARD TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES SO MORE OF OUR PEOPLE COULD GET THEIR TURN TO FULFILL THEIR DREAMS.

WE ARE PROUD, OF OUR PEOPLE. OF OUR ISLAND, OF OUR CULTURE. SOMOS DOMINICANOS.
